DualTherm® is the natural evolution of vacuum thermal processing. It separates high temperature functions from high-pressure gas quenching in a “cold chamber”. In turn, this cold chamber quenching furnace perfectly combines the two fundamental case hardening functions. DualTherm® operates on the traditional in/out principle and is ideal for applications requiring extreme flexibility.
DualTherm® cold chamber quenching designs are based on the proven technologies of the ModulTherm® system and provides the same physical and metallurgical characteristics of the treated parts. The DualTherm® design has two distinct chambers that separate the heating and cooling processes, for faster heat-up times, less energy consumption, greater quenching intensity and less maintenance. By separating the chambers, a far more broad range of materials can be processes including lower alloyed materials with greater cross-sections.
DualTherm® can be equipped with vacuum carburizing (low pressure carburizing or LPC), convection heating, and Helium and/or Nitrogen gas quenching. This flexibility provides you the ability to design a system customized to meet your individual needs. DualTherm® is also available with vacuum oil quenching. In this concept, the gas quench chamber is replaced by an oil quench bath. Fully ducted agitators provide variable speed, uniform oil flow directly to the workload. In the same unit, an option for 2 bar gas cooling is also available.
Design Benefits: Treatment chamber hot zone is not thermally stressed by high pressure/high speed quenching gas flow during quenching events; Maintaining steady temperature precludes the need to heat and cool the hot zone with each workload; a simplified baffle system enables alternating gas flow directions thereby providing quench distortion control; separate chambers prevent load handling equipment interference with heating and quenching processes; Quench gas distribution control provides homogenous, uniform quench flow.
Metallurgical Processes: Vacuum Carburizing (also known as Low Pressure Carburizing or LPC), Neutral Hardening, Normalizing, Annealing, Spheroidize Annealing, Stress Relieving, Brazing. All of these processes gain the advantages of vacuum processing.
